I broke one of my laptops..· So I decided to part it out and when I pulled the trackpad and noticed there are only 4 pins on the interface...· Anyone familiar with these, and the possibility of hooking it up as an input device?· Mine is from a Toshiba Portege R100.· I can post some more details if anyone thinks it'd help.·

The Trackpoint IC should be contained within the touch pad.
From what I understand the four 4 pins correspond to a standard mouse interface.
    Mouse info here.

You would need to trace out the data lines.
I have heard of people connecting these devices to a standard serial port.

The IC is on a PCB piggybacking the assembly... With a 1/2"square IC, a crystal etc..
That is what I was hoping.. I suppose it can't hurt to trace out +/- on it, I'll start with the mobo..
I'll post my results if anyone's interested. Seems to me it'd be a pretty nifty input device if it's as easy as hooking it to the mouse port...

    Thanks for the input PLJack!
