····· Hello,
········· I want this kit but I'm pennyless. I live in a townless neighborhood with nineteen houses and two apartments. What should I do to earn money in less than two weeks?eyes.gif

If anyone wants to know what is "this kit", I mean the "What's a Microcontroller". Anyone have ideas of what I should do to get fast cash?

Maybe you could go to a neighboring town where they have plasma collection, you'll be there for·several hours.· Then head over to your nearest Reservation Casino.

How valuable are the plasmas? Do you think I could... nevermind. Besides, the closest reservation casino has secondhand smoke and I would rather go to a kiddy amusement park than my nearest reservation casino.

How about going around to the 19 houses and 2 apartments and asking whether there are any odd jobs to do for pay. They may not pay much and the jobs (like lawn mowing or yard cleanup or garage cleanup or something similar) are often a lot of work for not much pay, but you can often make enough money to buy something like a Basic Stamp Activity kit ($80) in a week or so. The book itself is downloadable for free from the Parallax website.

I do not know if I can do that, to confess, I don't know how to mow a lawn. And I am easily anxious. I wil not prefer going to someone's house and asking for their certain needs or barters for cash. Any other ideas?shakehead.gif

Nope. Sounds like you're ruling out most of the legitimate ways that people (mostly children and adolescents) have used for a long time to get things that they want and can't afford. You haven't said about neighboring towns or other areas. There may be a club you can join or other, similar group. They won't give you the money, but they may be willing to buy a unit that you would share with others.

My point is I don't want to go to people's house and sell or barter them for money because I'm nervous about personals and privacy of people I know. I was thinking more like... I will figure out a way. Of course this forum are for Parallax customers and fans.

This forum is supposed to be for people with help about their Parallax related projects, not for making money. Sorry, I will figure out a way.

Most people are willing to be helpful to someone who seems to be willing to put some effort into a project. At the very least, most would be willing to offer advice that might be applicable to the local community and what services are available. People will generally tell you what they're willing to do and what they won't do and usually will not take an appearance as an invasion of privacy as long as you are polite and clear about what you want. They may say no, but politeness, courtesy, and honesty go a long way.

Some areas in the U.S.A. are dirt poor and isolated.

I lived in Newport, Oregon [bought a beachside house for $6000USD] for 3 years at a time when the economy was bad [early 80s] and people would knock on my door everyday and ask for work. As a carpenter, I barely got by.

At the local pub, people with no place to go were drinking water because beer was too expensive and mooching rolling papers for roll your own cigarettes. Everyone was very redneck too.

In 1983, I left after making only $25USD in 3 months and living mainly on mussles from the beach and potato and onion soup. I was ready to walk to California if I had to.

It seems CLG/BT is a youth in similar straits but not free to leave. I suspect no one in the community has enough cash to spare for such things. Funny how one can access internet and a computer though, educaional grant? library?

He can download the text book 'Whats a Microcontroller' for free, but the question remaining about how to get functioning components. EBay has cheap, but not free.

I find it quite disconcerting that he has to sell his blood to buy something that might better him.· There is the NEETS-Military Electronics for free on line, http://www.zianet.com/NMAMARS/downloads/neets.htm

    CLG/BLT,
On the Internet, it is nearly impossible to get the kind of help that you are asking for. Real people and real communities provide face to face support.

If somebody sent you a kit for free, there would be hundreds of others trying to get the same deal. Charity is best done in small amounts and not in public. Ask teachers, friends, family, and other community leaders if your goal is worthy. If they feel it is, they are the ones that can help you raise the money or find the job that will pay for it.

Two weeks may be unrealistic, but learning to provide for one's self is far more important than learning just about anything else. Are you concerned that the summer sale will be over?

It is okay, I will deal with it on my ownsmile.gif . My real question is connected with this one. I will tell you my plan:

I will buy Parallax's summer special as an entrance into digital engineering.·I will learn how to program a basic stamp with it, until·I go to...burger.gif ...confused.gif ... Which one is next in programming: Javelin, SX, or Propeller? Anyway, I will get to propeller chip, when I go advanced into programming SpinTM...roll.gif ... I will make two electronic stuff. One will be a robot, and another is for communications.

This robot will have a leg kind of tranportation instead of wheels. The leg will be a crawler, and this is·the problem:...burger.gif ... What supplies will I need for the crawler leg to move like a spider?

P.S.! If you want to see how the leg will move, go in Public Forums into Robotics and go to Need Help/Opinion to see the video. Any comments or opinions? Post it in Need Help/Opinions.
