Well, I am trying to complete this for the June 15th deadline. But if I cannot do so I thought this might be of interest to others.·

Mechanically everything is there and electronically all systems have tested operational.· I just have to get a printed chopstick out of the device and complete my documentation.· Foolishly I was up until 4am working on yet another Parallax project.

Not really. How about? Personalized chopsticks, like nameplace cards.
Chopsticks with your fortune on them ['fortune cookie chopsticks']
Valentine's Day chopsticks [his and hers]
Chopsticks with Chinese poetry
Political message chopsticks to remind you to vote for the guy that provided the free lunch.
Message chopsticks in a bottle for people stranded on a desert island with only a chopstick printer and bottles.

Maybe, personalized drum sticks for muscians. .. Personalized name on your umbrella handle, screwdriver.

thaty is really neat... got a picture of the finished printing? i would imagine 90dpi(or whatever it was? CPI was it?) would be rather rough on a chpstick.. but still, nawt bad.

Just one thing...

Have you checked that the ink is water-resistant?
(I know from personal experience that not all HP inks are... )

I hope to have this submited as a 'completed project' soon. June 15th has been too busy to get it done for the contest deadline -- Oversea's Federal Income Tax are due and I am in the midst of Final Examinations for my university students.

No, the ink is not very water-resistant. This is a fun thing, a Oriential-meets-Ocidental type concept project.
Roughness depends on the quality of the chopstick. The local 7-11 seems to have very smooth ones. But like all wood products, there are wide variations in dimension and surface qualities.

BTW, the SX board that comes with the HP printer head is very useful, adaptible, and hackible.
You are not wasting money on a 'one-trick pony' if you buy it. You can actuall drive a uni-polar stepper or other devices with it.

The 96DPI resolution is good, but the on-board character set is 1/8" characters -- not exactly big. So for bigger or 16X16 Chinese, I have to create a downloadable printer image that coordinates with the stepper motors for positioning.

A video is possible. But I want to have one nice demonstration product run before I attempt to make one. So far I am just pushing out one character at a time.
