Blue screen of death

I purchased a OEM Basic stamp and have been unable to connect to it so I purchased the FTDI USB to Serial cable that is recommended.· After installing the driver as soon as I try to connect to the stamp I get the windows XP blue screen of death, dumping physical memory, FTDIBus.Sys or something along that line.· Anyone have a tip to help remedy this issue.

    I figured it out- I uninstalled the driver using the FTDI utility and then reinstalled on another USB port however this time after the install I got a message saying the USB device may not be working properly so I did the install again and this time the driver loaded to fix the unknow com port issue. I am using a laptop that only has 4 USB port and no serial com ports. So a com-port was not listed in the System hardware. I think that maybe the driver for that has to load too. At any rate I am finally up and running. THanks-
