    Hi,

Look at www.rfsolutions.co.uk - they have GPS boards for about £25 + arial - with several configurations. I am using one (LS-40B I think) which gives a 1hz update rate, upto 36400 baud serial input/output. It has a +/-5m accuracy.

    Hi

Thanks for the replay... Can you thing of something a little more accurate...

I'm preparing a robo-heli·and because building and using such a expensive transmitter is not an easy job i would use a global positioning system!!!

    Thanks, Provas, GReece

    Hi,

No example code or schematics at present. Just connect the SerIn->SerOut and vice versa. When the module starts it outputs all the data you'll need I'd guess. Just read in a serial string at 4800 baud.

Check out the N&V articles 83 and 103 - Jon Williams explains most of this

For more acuracy I think you'll have to work for the Military! This is the best spec I've seen - most seem to be ~10m

It's no big problem getting 1metre or better resolution, IF you're willing to pay for the equipment...

I work for the Public Roads Administration here in Norway, and one of the tasks done by people at the office is to accurately measure an area where a new road is planned, and then a 5metre resolution wouldn't do. Of course, the equipment used in those circumstances can barely be called portable(if yuo have a good backpack) and costs a couple of thousand dollars...

If you want millimetre accuracy that, too, is possible, but you need a ground-reference transmitter. (basically, a radio-transmitter placed on a known location which broadcasts similarly to the GPS satellites) Of course THAT is even more expensive... (and the accuracy is relative to the position of the ground transmitter. Place that wrong and you're screwed)

anyway, here's a couple of links to 'sub foot' accuracy GPS equipment.

    http://www.seabed.nl/
These sells 'bare boards' used in surveying equipment, and also reference stations...

Note that very few sites lists prices on this kind of equipment.
(It's the kind of 'if you have to ask, you can't afford it' type of products)
