I found this great (maybe) device at allelectronics and i want to use it with my sx48 project.· it outputs a varied voltage depending on the temp.· do i need to use an A/D or is there a way to do it with the chip itself?

You could probably do something with the bitstream A/D converter VP, but using analog temperature sensors for microcontrollers is a real pain-in-the-rear.
Save yourself alot of headaches and just use a digital temperature sensor.

This device is used in our Industrial Control Book and we typically use an ADC0831 to read it.

Chris is right. I didn't mean to imply that it was impossible or even impractical.

You certainly can use an analog to digital converter to read the LM34. And if you need an A/D for other things that might make alot of sense. You can also use an Op-Amp to amplify the LM34 to get really good precision over a narrow temperature range.
