Well hello,

I need a chip to convert serial asycronous data to parallel.·I need it for·cascading a LCD to my BS2.·I don't have the luxury to pay an extra 40$ at least on postage funds..... sorry...sad.gif

For just the serial to paralllell part, would a shift register do it for you ???

You should be able to get these from a local dealer...

Living on the planet Earth might be expensive but it includes a free trip around the sun every year...

    Experience level:
[ ] Let's connect the motor to pin 1, it's a 6V motor so it should be fine.
[ ] OK, I got my resistors hooked up with the LEDs.
[X] I got the Motor hooked up with the H-bridge and the 555 is supplying the PWM.
[ ] Now, if I can only program the BOE-BOT to interface with he Flux Capacitor.
    [ ] I dream in SX28 assembler...

On the help page of the sx-key editor there is an example of a serial to parallel LCD converter working at 9600 baud based on an SX28,

it has also 8 additional I/O· pins for generic use.

    hope this helps

If he's only using a single line (asynchronous) the shift registers wont work, a second clock pin is required.
Provas, do a search on the term "serial backpack", it is the most frequently used term to describe what you want, and hopefully you can find someone in Greece who sells them, or a company in another EU member nation would have them and it may be cheaper to ship because of the economic arrangements.

    Thanks for the help.

Well I found somecircuits with Pic 16C57 or/and other microcontrollers. Is the use of a microcontroller nessessary? Isn't there a chip that can do that job. And if there isn't...·Do you know if I can find·a microcontroller pre-programmed·via Digikey?

    Hope, not offending Parallax...

    Thanks again, Provas, Greece
