.NET Micro Framework

Hi:

Microsoft has offered Parallax Sumobots to MEDC attendees in Las Vegas who wanted to compete in a minisumo competition later at the conference.

They have done this for the last 3 years.· What was different this year was the robots were modified to run .NET MicroFramework and were programmed in C#.

Digicom announced that they will have chips and development kits this summer (not necesarily for minisumo robots).

Is Parallax considering picking up this technonlogy?

Comments?

Somehow, "Parallax Sumobots" and "modified to run .NET" don't go together for me. To my knowledge, you can't modify a BS2 module to run ANYTHING except PBasic tokens -- which were designed WAY before .NET anything.

Also "Parallax Sumobots" and "programmed in C#" don't go together. I'll accept that SOMETHING was programmed in C#, but it wasn't a Parallax Sumobot.

Unless I'm way off base here.

    Gents -

Generally I agree with you, except for this. No one ever said that a Parallax Sumo Bot could ONLY be powered by a PBASIC Stamp. Thus is you put another processor in there it might run any sort of software, yet the base system is still a Parallax Sumo-Bot.

    Just a thought.

The basic stamp circuitry was replaced with an ARM7 processor.

Sorry not to be more clear in the orginal message.

So the original question remains for a Parallax person.

Is Parallax considering picking up this technonlogy?

    Thanks,

I managed to get one of the kits off someone at MEDC but I am told that the original kit had a CD. Is this true? if so does anyone know what was on the CD? Can the content be downloaded from somewhere?

Also are these modified kits available from some place, some of our programmers are interested in having some internal competitions. Since they are familiar with .Net and C# the modified kits are of more interest than the standard kits sold by Parallax.

Feel free to contact me directly at: carl@soti.net

    Thanks,

    Carl
