Replacement for gp1u52x? (IR communtication form PC to stamp)

Hi,
I want to do the BS1 app note 17. Talking to a stamp from a PC over infrared. The problem is the part gp1u52x (276-137) as been discontinued by Radio Shack. Does anyone know what a good replacement part would be? Or would anyone happen to have a different design for talking to a stamp over IR (one way from PC to stamp is all I need).
