Little circuit that listens for switches, while the Stamp is doing other stuff

I am looking for a simple design that would make it possible to continously listen to a series of·switches, without keeping the Basic Stamp busy all the time.
I imagine a·circuit that would remember whether a switch has been pressed since last time it was queried by the Basic Stamp. It is not necessary to know many times the button was pressed.
·I am using the Basic Stamp 2 that has no interrupts.
any answer is appreciated,
