MAX3232 with Propeller

I was looking over the Propstick schematics and it uses capacitors that are not polarized. So it doesn't matter whether you use polarized or non-polarized capacitors with the max3232, right? Is this true of any circuit... that you can use non-polarized caps in place of the polarized ones?

Which version of the max3232 does the Propstick use?

    The PropSTICK currently uses the ST Micro version of the MAX3232, instead of the one made by Maxim. The use of non-polarized caps is an indirect consequence of the very high switching frequency used by these devices. This allows lower-value ceramic caps to be used in place of the higher-capacitance and more expensive tantalums or aluminum electrolytics.
