Cannot identify my BS2
wel like the title tels us: i cannot connect to my BS2.
i know there already allot of topics about this problem, but i think i’ve read all of them. Unfortunally i've not got the possibility to get the Basic stamp editor to identify my BS2.
I've got an Basic stamp 2 chip on a REV B boebot. The primary controller is the USB port (intergraded USB <--> serial converter). the battery's i use are alkaline 1.5v (4x) to give the boebot 6v
. i also tried with a 9v battery (same result)
The thinks that i have already tried:
- Normal way: connect with the USB port and put the switch to 1 or 2.
- Fifo buffers disabled
- latency set from 16 to 1
- Check batteries over and over
- created a serial connection
result: Loopback and echo are successful but the device type is not indicated.
Does anyone has a good idea what i’ve forgotten???
Please excuse my lack of english.

Echo verifies that the TX/RX circuitry on the BS2 is being reached.
These are both very 'low level' tests. It's still possible that your USB converter is not
properly implementing the "RTS" line, which resets the BS2 in preparation for programming.
Or that it's not timing it the way the PC is telling it to.
Note that very few USB adapters for "PDA"'s properly implement these 'handshake' signals.
USB to serial adapters that are known to do this properly are the FTDI, the Keyspan, and the BAFO.
People have had lots of trouble with Belkins.
i'm using the "onboard" USB connection that is on de REV b board. unfortunaly there is no serial connection on the board. zo i creaded one that i found on this forum

·· Correction, the DTR line is what is used to reset the BASIC Stamp.· RTS is pin 7 which is used in the loopback test.

What kind of computer are you using, and which operating system?
Is it fair to presume that you have never been able to program a PBASIC Stamp with your present set up?

It sounds like you have a USB-BOE bot, correct? Did you install the FTDI drivers BEFORE plugging in the USB port? Some USB devices (and I believe the FTDI interface on the USB-BOE is one) require the drivers to be loaded before the device is actually plugged in.
You did install the drivers, right?
i din't install the FTDI drivers before puggin in the USB port. i'll try that now.
how ever i tried to make the serial connection already with no succes. (shown above)

Thinks that i've tried:
Installed the drivers before inserting the USB port
Follow the steps at http://www.parallax.com/detail.asp?product_id=28850
Installed the drivers at http://www.parallax.com/detail.asp?product_id=28850
Installed the drivers from http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm
still no succes

I've run into this with my favorite USB to Serial device, the Keyspan 19, as well. Only AFTER you install the correct drivers, with the actual USB device NOT PLUGGED IN to the USB port, will the correct drivers be found by Windows when you DO plug in the device.
and after i uninstalled the drivers, i have installed again the drivers manualy befor connecting the USB port
