Problems with serial port

When I first boot the PC it shows in the ID that it reconizes the stamp. After I close the ID and check it again it does not show up. It only reconizes the loopback but no echo. I have tried different cables and boards. If I try to run·the program just after restarting I get a hardware communitcation failure. If I try it again it just says basic stamp not·found.·I just reformatted with XP pro SP1. I'm running this on a Toshiba Satellite Pro 4300 laptop.

    Disable the COM port FIFO Buffers.· These usually interfere with communication, especially on laptops.·· This of course assumes you are not using a USB to Serial Adapter.
