External Crystal

Hello all,

Been brewing my own board. I purchased a "standard" crystal, 5.000MHz. But, can't verify if it will work. Making matters worse is that I can't find a datasheet. I have read consistantly about the XTAL crystal specifically. The one I have looks like a standard one, but the one's in the misc pictures shows a smaller style.

I will first start by asking:

Is the prop sensitive to specific external crytals?

My guess is that it is not sensitive. It would be harder to make it _not_ oscillate. The _accuracy_ of the oscillation will depend on matching the load capacitance.

So, would you gander that any 5MHz crystal will work?

    Javalin,

    I asked again because:

    a) searched and couldn't find said post
    b) remembered reading said post a while back and still not knowing if what I had would work.

The guy said it was a "standard" 5Mhz crystal. If he had said this is a "standard" cap screw, I would have known what he said, as I am a mechanical engineer and know what a "standard" cap screw is. BUT, not sure what a "standard" crystal is. :) :)

    Sorry if this is repetetive.

The 5.000MHz crystal we've been using at Parallax is ECS-50-20-4, or Digi-Key part number X410-ND.
