I've been looking recently throught the intregrated ciruits, and I've spotted this... "74HC165 Parallel to Serial" on http://www.parallax.com/detail.asp?product_id=602-00010

Is this the one that may make your Parallel LCD into a serial so only one pin could be used?

If so, please tell me how to connect, because there's no data sheet privided

The '595 is a synchronous serial device which means it requires a clock, and that particular device has a latch pin -- so you have a total of three.· You can make an LCD adapter with it, but the code gets cumbersome.

    Vladimir -

Here is another solution. Shoot over here first:
    http://www.elabinc.com/

Punch up "EDE IC's" and then look at the "LCD Screen Control IC's", then at the EDE-700 and the EDE-702 IC's specifically. Now you can take any compatible LCD and use it serially.

    Regards,

Also, Professor Anderson's site (www.phanderson.com) has inexpensive serial LCD interfaces available...and he sells them on Ebay as well.

There are a lot of serial solutions out there; we ask, though, that if you go that direction you refrain from requesting support for those products here.

Sorry, Jon. I meant to make that point. I only made the suggestion because it seemed that cost seeemed to be the only concern.

We completely understand, Tom -- cost is a concern for us too. We've worked very hard to bring out product costs down while maintaining the high level of support that our customers expect.
