Built in ADC converter??

How does the built in ADC work?
I want to measure the volts·over a 1 Ohm resistor to calculate how many amps are drawn.
Is this possible to do with the Javelin??

You can measure 0-5V, so with an 1 ohm resistor
you can measure 0-5A (the resistor must be a 5 Watt type)
The resolution of the ADC is 8 bits.

One side of the 1 ohm resistor must be GND.
