Can a BS2 drive 8 LED's?

Can I drive 8 LED's directly from a BS2? I read the appnotes on the BS1 and there is an example of a dice game. In the example the BS1 powers 7 LEDS. Just a 1k resistor from each pin to the LED. It powers the LED by turning the pin high.

Can I do the same thing with 8 LEDs on a BS2? I had just thought they would pull to much current?

Would it be better to power them from the VDD (I am using the board of education) and use the pins to have a transistor turn the ground on/off for each pin?

thanks
chad

That would be no problem at all; using 1K resistors with a typical LED forward voltage of 1.5v, you'd have a pin current of about 3.5 mA per pin, and 28 mA for the entire group (which is within limits).
