voice changer circuit??

Hey all,
I am trying to build a voice changer circuit, I know they are cheap enough to buy, but I HAVE to know what each component does within the circuit and why.· Either using an IC or not, depending on the complexity of the ckt.· Any help would be greatly appreciated.
