Kit 74 relay board

Can anyone help me with directly programming parallel port adapters via USB or PCMCIA?· They don't get an I/O address, and I can't seem to figure out how to send specific commands to specific ports.
I'm using the Kit 74 boards...they work fine if attached directly to my built-in parallel port.· But when attached via a USB-to-Parallel or other adapter, I can't seem to send them the one-byte commands because I don't know their address.· I'm really stumped...would appreciate any suggestions!· (I have considerable Windows programming experience, including DDK development.)
Thanks!
