Basic Stamp microcontroller and prog. board

Referring to your site:"A BASIC Stamp microcontroller and programming board is required to use all of the products below." Is it necessary for one to use the microcontroller and programming board when using:
or can one just connect via the usb port of a computer and write code for data input and output to the tranceiver?

    You cannot connect these devices directly to a USB Port.· Now, in theory, if you were using an FTDI USB to Serial Chip you could connect it that way since the devices are serial in nature.
