The BOE is connected to the PC through a serial port, or a USB to Serial converter, or directly with a USB cable. None of these have any effect on the PC.
I WAS able to burn out a PC's serial port once, when I accidentally put 120 volts AC on a card I was working with that was connected to the PC at the time. But, this was NOT a BOE (which uses a wall-wart transformer so all the BOE sees is around 12 volts DC). The point being, really don't connect 120 Volts AC to the BOE, and your PC should be safe.
