Increasing TCS230 Color Sensor Range / Distance

Any ideas on increasing (accurately) the reading range of a TCS230 Color Sensor? (even just a few more mm/inches of reading would be helpful)

I believe some sort of lens to focus the image would be required, buy a suplus lens (I can provide you links to some if you desire) and place the sensor at the focal point of the lens. The entire colorfield the diameter of lens along the axis of the lens would aggregate and be measured.
