is there a way two wire a reset switch seprate from the on on the basic stamp board? if so how

    Yes: connect a normally-open push-button between the RST pin and Vss (Note that there is no socket for the RST pin).

    thank you ill try that is that the pin connected to the chip labled rst?

    Yes, it's pin #22 on the 24-pin module.
