Electronics Courses Online?

My interest is in microcontrollers and RF remote control, specifically aimed at robotics, I have a BS2 homework board and I have a Visual Basic programming background. I would like to know if someone could recommend a tutorial, a book or an online course that could help me understand better electronics, so I would be able to know what I'm doing, why a resistor should go here and there, etc.

    There's no online version, but a nice easy starter is Forest M. Mims "Getting Started in Electronics."

    You can get an online electronics certificate from George Brown College up here in CAnada.

    I know a lot of people that did at least part of it....and sadly, because it is mostly at your own pace, they found life got in the way of completing it.
    You may have more luck if you keep to this goal.
