Electronic cricket

I've seen the oscillator circuits taht will make a cricket chirp sound in proportion to the temperature. What I'm looking to do is the inverse: listen to real crickets and calculate the temp with a BS1 or 2. This is for a friend who can no longer do the cricket lesson at campouts with hsi scouts, as he's recently lost the part of his hearing in the cricket range.
Looking at an active filtered, amplified mic input, and a way to count how many chirps in a minute. rets is just math.
ANy forseeable issues?
