I am using a BS1 with serial adapter, i don't get why the code won't download it says "no BASIC stamp found" i don't get what I am doing wrong i have the ground connected to ground on battery, serial connector soldered into appropriate pins, i've done acontinuity check on all pins nothing shorts everything is connceted.
I applied power to the stamp via an 8.4 V r/c plane battery and plugged in the serial cable (checked to make sure A is opposite ground and >> is connect to ground)
is there anything i'm missing????!!?!! i also clicked the BS1 icon in the editor as well

Well, since nobody has answered, I'll try to help.· First, did you search the Parallax messages for an answer.·

much discussion:· http://search.parallax.com

This is a common problem, and usually requires that you set your latency on your PC serial port very low.· Lowest is 1, which is what I use.

A couple of questions....

Have you hooked ever had any stamps recognized by the PC?

Are you using a USB to serial adapter?

Do you have a Pocket PC or other Activesync software going.

PS· are you using windows?

i don't think battery is low because i measured the voltage it was 8 volts. (more than enough)

but one question: how do I set latency ? i am using windows

· Are you using a USB-to-serial converter?·

· To do this (adjusting the send & receive buffers), open Device Manager [Control Panel / System -- Hardware].·· Find your USB-to-serial converter in COM & LPT, click it, and then click the Advanced button, then you'll find the two slider bars.

··PS -- How about ditching that cry-baby emoticon?

· PPS -- 3 Posts since this one and Salik's participation in the problem-solving process has been less than active.

I have the same problem. Basic Stamp 2 Board of Education works fine, but with the same serial cable connected to BS1 with serial adapter the editor don't find the BS1.

8 volts?· What sort of battery are you using?· Are you getting that voltage while it is connected and powering the Board?· If it's a 9V battery it could easily be sagging below what the regulator needs.· As for latency, you need to determine how you're connecting to the computer.· As PJ asked, are you using USB?

In order to comnmunicate with the Basic Stamp 1 serial adapter you have to be using the BASIC Stamp Windows Editor version 2.2.5. Earlier versions do not support the BS1 serial adapter. The fact that things work with the BSII, but not with the BS1 serial adapter would tend to indicate you might have an outdated editor..? smile.gif

· L-O-L
· I use the 2.1 version of the PBASIC IDE to program BS1s all the time.· Haven't used it via a USB-to-serial though (if that's what somebody was meaning.)
· Still waiting for salik to participate in the problem-solving process.· What's the deal there?

really sorry i was out of town for a robotics competition. I'm back now and to answer your questions, this is an R/C plane battery, 800maH
I'm not using a USB to serial adapter, straight into the serial port, I will try what you suggested about changing speeds on the com port as soon as I get the chip back from school

Since·there's not·a USB-to-serial adapter then "changing speeds" is not a fix.

Make sure you have this at the beginning of your code, I had the same problem:

' {$STAMP BS1}
' {$PBASIC 1.0}

Well, if you're checking your program with the PBASIC IDE, it'll tell you that you're missing the Directive/s.

salik seems to come and go.

Well, I'm not Parallax, but, philipad23, I (and others) need to know the particulars of your set-up regarding your BS1.· Are you using a carrier board or a B-o-E and a BS1-IC or·a board of your own devise, power supply or battery, etc.

thanks for the reply...

I am using serial adapter for BS1.

I have the headings

' {$STAMP BS1}
' {$PBASIC 1.0}

and the BS1 is connected to serial adapter as shown on·its datasheet...

Am·I missing something?

OK -- I'll ask, again:· Are you using a carrier board or a B-o-E and a BS1-IC or·a board of your own devise (protoboard, experimenter pcb, etc.), power supply or battery, etc.
