I was wondering if the serial port in this schematic has the pins facing up or down?

    This would be looking directly at the male-DB9 plug on the PC, or the solder side(back) of the female-DB9 plug.

    Thanks, I was wondering if it is safe to plug my programer directly into the serial port instead of having a cord from it to the computer.

    If you look very closely at the connector you will see that there are little numbers next to each pin.· You should follow those numbers.· They are consistent when you are dealing with opposite genders.
