YES...it's a slow day at work....or I'm just THAT good at procrastinating!

Here's a video of a locust looking robot that can climb walls and trees!

There is something un-nerving about a bug-like robot that can just walk up a brick wall.

I have seen others that can walk on the ceiling and can carry a camera to peek in windows.

    Steve,

·· We were talking about that today at Parallax (Tech Support) after reading this thread!· Yes, it was Runaway, 1984, also starring Gene Simmons and Kirstie Alley.

It seems to know where the mortar is, and puts its "feet" down there rather than on the bricks themselves. Or, maybe its stride and the mortar spacing just happened to coincide?

Did you notice they didnt completely trust it on the brick wall, they had a rope attached to it in case it fell.

I'd put a rope on it too - It probably cost more than my car!

It's really cool. There's a good presentation at at http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~cfr/talks/2005-Mar-22.html with more videos and photos.

The rope (and the hard hats) are a personnel safety requirement of the test facility, Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) in San Antonio, TX.

I'd put a rope on it too, just incase it escaped and tried to take over the world. Yech - ugly bugger.
