New IRdetectors for the Boe-Bot USB version???

As I went through the parts of the Robot, I stumbled upon 2 of the IR detectors. What suprised me, was that they were enwraped in a thin metal box.

This box seems to be a sort of protection for the IR detectors, but is it meant to be removed??

(Note: The "Eye" (Black Halfglobe) of the IR detectors is not fully covered, but only partially by to Metal strips that form an X)

I am afraid, this protection might interfere with the IR, but I am also afraid of damaging it by removing this encasement.

If anyone knows, please answer...

Some detectors have these shields, some don't. Those that have them, need to keep them.

Possibly they reduce the amount of IR-light entering the rear of the device, but in any event keeping them does no harm, and removing them might cause harm. First principle, do no harm.
