The RFID reader from Parallax and the TAGs have a 2" as a maximun range.

I need to increas the range ( about 4 feet or more)

    Joe;

    There are a number of us who have tried working on this, and to my knowledge, about the best you'll get is 6" or so, with a large tag. This particular frequency ("low frequency RFID") is by design for short range, almost "point of contact" use.

    You can get RFID with the ranges you're looking at, but I believe you'd need to jump up to the "medium" or "high" frequency stuff, and the price goes up significantly, both for reader technology and the tags.

    You can get 4' or more using active tags, but we don't carry those.

    Chris (or anyone):

    I haven't seen any "active" tags for this frequency range. Can you point us in a direction to start with? (I've seen them for the "mid" and "high" frequency range, but not compatible with the Parallax reader.

    Well no, you'd be moving into a different realm entirely.· there have been a few threads on these forums from members checking into them.· I am not one of them however.· I am content with what we have.· =)· I haven't really tried to use it in any way where I hit a limitation.
