Smoked tested a Ping)))

Got my new ping))) and was in a hurry to make use of it. Installed it and placed the plug into the servo port 15. Forgot that I am running 7.5 volts to the servo. Turned it on, no smoke, but I did smell it and heard a pop. Discovered what I did and started to cry.

As you can see, I am not much of an electrician, so sorry if this questions is stupid, but is there anything that I can salvage from this board? Is there a way that I can repair it?

Thanks
Don "Ho"

You'll have to send it to us for repair. The office will be open tomorrow and you can call Tech Support to get things going (888-512-1024).

Even though I(and probably parallax) don't recomend a onsite repair by anybody else other than parallax, what do you see on it that looks wronge? Do you see any chared objects? Can you give us a picture?

We don't sell the repair parts (programmed SX), so off-site repair is not a possibility.

I was just thinking it might be something simple. I havn't worked with my PING in·a while and I don't rememeber what components it has on it. But, things like transisitors and resistors pop so if it was one of those i guess he would try to repair it. Anyway. Yes, send it to parallax.

Contacted Tech Support, and was infomred that they dont re-build the Ping. Not cost effective. And I had to agree. They did offer (and I accepted) a replacement at 1/2 cost. The effort and support that Parallax has given me on this order will make me a customer for life. Thanks Guys!!

We try to be reasonable with our customer friends -- we like having you. Just be sure that you set your BOE servo voltage jumper to Vdd before you connect your replacement Ping. And don't feel too bad, when I connected a prototype of our serial LCD to the BOE I said, "Hmmm, it's not working", followed by, "Hey, what's that funky smell?" It happens to the best of us.
