Measuring oven temperatures with a basic stamp homework board

I need to measure the temperature changes inside an oven over an extended period of time.
So instead of sitting there watching an oven thermometer for 2 hours, I thought it would be rather nifty to get my Basic Stamp homework board to do the job for me.
On the parallax website they have a thermocouple kit, but it says that it will only work with the BASIC Stamp 2p modules.
Can I use this kit with a Basic Stamp homework board, as the picture claims it has a Basic Stamp 2 built in?

Thanks,
Daniel

    Daniel,

·· As you pointed out, the H/W Board has a BS2 on-board, not a BS2p, so that still won't allow you to use the Thermocouple device.· A BS2p is still needed for direct interface or you need a serial to 1-wire converter.

    Thanks for the reply.
Where can I get this serial to 1-wire converter?

D-I-Y.· Better just save up for a BS2p.

    Danielg -

Maxim/Dallas offers the serial to 1-wire interface chips here:
    http://para.maxim-ic.com/Default_1WireInterfaceProducts.htm

The DS-2480B is the chip most often used with the PBASIC Stamp.

    hello Danielg

I was wondering if you could just make the temperature probe yourself
using the RCtime setup in applied sensors. Then logging that temp
of course the temp probe would have to be-able to withstand the temp your motoring
most temp probe are based on incremental resistance.
seems like an excellent project for the stamp 2

I was thinking that, but I don't quite have the knowledge on this subject and all the online "how to" guides are for the Basic stamp 2p.
Is there a guide to making this serial to 1-wire device?
If not, I'll just have to do as PJ Allen suggested. smile.gif

Fluke sells a Thermocouple that plugs into a DMM, it outputs a voltage in proportion to the temperature, Model 80TK.· It isn't inexpensive ($70-$80), but it's an option.· You could connect it to an ADC and measure temps that way.

I think I'm just going to buy a Basic Stamp 2p.
Besides, there are plenty of other projects I can use it for. cool.gif
