Ping Sensor Temp Compenstation -Hardware or Sodtware ?

Well my basic question is still not answered. Can I provide a feedback signal on the "signal" pin of the Ping Sensor to control the pulse width or must I just do it in the software calculation for the air speed at a given temperature ?

I do not want to blow the ping sensor because I have only one so I am reluctant to experiment.
