Autonomous vehicle sensor system

··This system was developed to·monitor the presence of objects and obstacles within a vehicles immediate environment (within a specified distance around the vehicle) as well as provide·vehicle motion·and orientation feedback.
·
The objectives for the projects were as follows:
  • The·system should detect the presence of obstacles in a specified area. This area has been determined for the vehicle on which the system will be put in use. See attachments.
  • The system must detect the presence of these obstacles with minimal delay.
  • The system should be able to provide feedback on the surfaces which the vehicle will travel on.
  • The system must be able to detect vehicle’s movement and orientation
  • The controller must be able to determine if the sensors are operating correctly.
  • The controller must be able to notify the vehicles control system of any detected obstacles, important operational feedback or system failures.
A BS2P40 was chosen to control the system due to a large number of required i/o's. The system was designed using 8 devantech SRF08 modules in a ring configuration to detect obstacles around the vehicle.·The I2C protocol was used to·communicate·with the SRF08's reducing the number of required i/o's. ·A Hitachi HM55B compass module provides orientation feedback while the Memsic 2125 dual axis accellerometer is used to provide feedback of the vehicles movement. A simple set of infrared detectors are used to detect·the surface on which the vehicle is traveling so as to avoid stairways, curbs and other potentially harmful conditions.·The technical design of the system as well as the completed project·is shown in the attachments.

Is this a completed project or are you looking for assistance? If the latter, I'll move the thread to the BASIC Stamps forum.

This is a completed project. My time was cut short when I was posting up the info on the project... Is there a way that I can edit the information that I posted? Or do I need to repost?

Cool, you can either edit your original post as PJ describes above, or simply add to this thread.

Sweet project! I was thinking of doing something like this on my autonomous Power Wheels. Do you have the program??? Maybe some more detailed drawings of the project?
