I am just starting out with my basic stamp and would like to be pointed in the right direction to being able to come up with a circuit to drive a couple of 6v dc solenoids. a simple circuit would be helpful and the pitfalls. much appreciated. Thanks !! Bruce Dowd

You definitely don't want to do it directly -- use a buffer; a transistor circuit will do.· I've attached an example that that I sketched for someone who wants to drive 12v solenoids, but the configuration will work for you too.· Select an appropriate transistor for the solenoid load current, and set the base resistor so that the transistor is saturated when 5v is applied to the base by the BASIC Stamp.

You'll probably find this article helpful: http://www.parallax.com/dl/docs/cols/nv/vol1/col/nv6.pdf
