Changing the Subject of a Thread

Is there a way to change the subject of a thread if you are not the originator?

I can certainly understand why you shouldn't be able to do this, but as an example of where it would be nice, see the following:

Then again, maybe it's my take on the issue (Fiber Optics)...

Maybe a better question would be:

Is there an effective way to "hi-jack" a thread, and start a "fork" with a different subject line?

I'm guessing the best way would be to start a new thread with a reference to the original thread.· This is OK, but requires users to look two places in order to see the whole topic.

We really discourage thread hijacking -- it's a bit impolite to the original poster and can be frustrating for those that are actively contributing to the original subject of a given thread. You're right, the simple answer is: just start a new thread -- you can always use a link to reference the other thread if that will be helpful.

I guess. If I have to behave, I'll behave. Or as my mother used to say "Fight nice!"

(I figured I aswered my own question as I was typing.)

The real thought here was be less "hijacking" and more "forking" the discussion. As I think about it, that can also get "messy" too, so I'll just shut up and get back to work.
