Pj , I have seen these used as a "bar-graph" on a stereo system. How much control current is required for these?
Another variation I have seen is a "butterfly" tube used to measure current where you have an illuminated circular
shaped indicator with a pie shape piece removed. ...by adjusting a bias current until the pie shape wedge disappears
and you are left with a complete illuminated circle, you can calculate the current of your unknown source.

"cat's eye" Yes, that is the name.... I knew "butterfly" wasn't quite right, but If I described it someone might know/remember what I was talking about.
This was on an old tester (<- I shouldn't have ever taken appart) There was an option to use the "cat's eye" tube on this tester as a grid-dip meter.
Something I could use 'a nice one of' right now for a brewing project idea.
Anyway Pj, 6mA? what voltage are you using? The 120VDC?

Great video! Was that Lurch playing in the background?
Your posts are always interesting and instructive. This is an interesting project too.
Love your hand drawn schematics too - Reminds me of Forrest Mims.
