Coming soon - CognitiveArm Module Rack (www.cognitivearm.com)
The aim of this project is to create a hardware/software upgrade that would make it easy to control the SG5-UT Robotic Arm from a PC.
POWER/COM MODULE
This module provides power to all other modules (incl. the PSC), as well as the servo motors, and converts RS232 signals to/from TTL allowing the "smart" modules to communicate with the PC.
CURRENT SENSING MODULE
The purpose of this module is to convert the current through each of the six servos to voltage, and scale it to 0-5V. The maximum current was chosen to be 2A (so 2A though a servo = 5V on the corresponding output).
CONTROL AND FEEDBACK MODULE
This is a "smart" module, which has two main functions.
There are 13 A/D inputs, which can measure voltage from 0-5V, and convert it to a 10-bit value. These can work with any sensor (IR, ultrasound, pressure), as long as the output is properly scaled. The user can request the value on any A/D input via RS232.
There is also an auxilary port which has 8 channels, each of which can be configured to be either a digital input, or a digital output. The inputs can work with sensors that have two possible states, for example switches. The outputs can be connected to relays, LEDs, etc. Channel direction (input/output) and state (high/low) can be read or set via RS232.
All three boards have the same form factor as the BOE (including the mounting holes).
Stay tuned for more updates.

The post has relevance for users of Parallax products. The SG5-UT arm (http://www.crustcrawler.com),·uses the PSC for servo control.
·· This forum is for completed projects only.· For now this thread will be moved to the Sandbox Forum.
