BS2 Input Output Voltage Question

The Syntax and reference manual says that my bs2 can use 5-12 volt input·. Why does the board have "5-9 vdc" written next to the power input plug? Is it safe to use 12v (from a cars cigarette lighter)?

I want to use a 12v battery through this plug to power my Board of Education. I also need 4.5-5v output from the breadboard. Will I still get 5v out if I·put 12v in?

Yes it is safe, at least with my experience. I have numerous projects running on production and prototype vehicles for years without a problem.

Keep in mind that the vehicle 12v cig lighther port will actually be anywhere from 13.2 to 14.7 volts when the vehicle engine is running.

Your board of education has a 5 volt output, but how much current is needed for the "4.5-5v output will determine if you can use it.

Sorry Im a·ME nor an EE.

    Hello,

·· If you run the GPS off the Vdd terminals on the BOE above the breadboard area, these are run from the BOE regulator, which can handle almost 1 Amp (1000 mA).
