Does anyone know of an off-the-shelf·momentary contact switch that is operated by a remote control.· I'm looking to pull up or pull down a Stamp pin remotely instead of pushing a button.

My google searches have·not yielded what I'm looking for.

On this page are a couple of options which could do what you're asking.

    Thanks Chris,

That will definitely do what I want but I think RF is a bit more than I need.· I was hoping to find an IR solution that is less expensive.· Sorry for not clarifying that in my original post.

    qkits has something:
    http://store.qkits.com/moreinf.cfm/K6708
    http://store.qkits.com/moreinfo.cfm/K6709
The first is the IR xmtr and the second is the IR rcvr.
Both pages show pics of both (same) items.
The sender is a key-fob sort of thing like it seems you desire.

The prices on QKits.com seem really reasonable. Thanks for the link.

    INTERESTING -- BECAUSE I DID NOT RE-TYPE THEM, I COPIED & PASTED·THEM IN.· THIS ISN'T THE FIRST TIME THAT I'VE SEEN THIS HAPPEN THOUGH.·

I AM TYPING IN ALL CAPS NOT BECAUSE IT IS EASIER FOR ME TO READ AND TYPE AFTER 55 YEARS OF DOING IT THIS WAY, BUT BECAUSE I AM MAD AS HECK.· Just kidding (I've been waiting for the right moment.)· smilewinkgrin.gif

    I just found this:

    http://www.allelectronics.com/cgi-bin/category.cgi?category=search&item=RC-10&type=store

There is only one contact and it's not momentary contact but I bought one anyway.· I'll see if it's hackable.

OK, I received the unit from All Electronics.· It was advertised as a 12 volt unit but the only thing that requires 12 volts is the relay that comes with the unit.··The relay·actually operates consistently at 8 volts.

What would be ideal for my project is a 5 volt, momentary contact unit.· On the circuit board inside is an 18 pin DIP IC labeled PT2272-L4 which is a latching RC decoder.· I works very well at 5 volts. The momentary compliment to this chip is the PT2272-M4.· If I could find one of these in the US, I could directly swap it and be on my way.· However, a search on findchips.com, digikey, etc. turned up empty.

Does any one have any search suggestions for finding one of these chips?

Also, I tried something else that worked a few times but quit.· From the data sheet for the PT2272, I noticed that the pin labeled VT goes high when the correct code is recognized.· This is a momentary thing during transmission.· So I tried connecting the base of a 2N2222 transistor to VT and·switching a 5 volt relay·(9202 05 30) with the transistor.· I used a 100ohm resistor between VT and the base.· It worked great for the first three tries and then VT stopped going high.· But I didn't see or smell smoke.·· The whole RC unit still works as it did originally.

Any comment or suggestions on how to proceed would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Chris I.
