robot hovercraft with usb servo controller

I am a newcomer and am planning on building a robotic hovercraft.· I would like to use the Parallax USB servo controller and a laptop computer to control some of the actuated devices.· Is is straightforward to interface with the servos through a high level language such as Matlab or Visual Basic?· Could you point me to some links?

Thanks

I would think you'd want to use the Serial version of the servo-controller, and run it with a BS2 or compatible. The USB version has to be hard-wired to a PC -- which makes your Hovercraft seem kind of large. Oh, wait, I just remembered, the USB version can use USB or serial, right?

Were I you, I think I'd still use a BS2 as an intelligent controller for the servo-controller. The BS2 could serve as the interface for the PC, and would provide closed-loop control for the hovercraft.

Yes, The basic stamp can be easily interfaced with VIsual Basic(even .net with an extra class).
