question about timer ICs

Hello
This may be a dumb question, but I haven't been able to find out if there is a difference between these 2 chips. I was trying to put together a circuit that called for a LM555 timer chip.· I'm trying to use a NE555 timer chip, and the circuit isn't working.· It is supposed to flash an·LED, but the LED just stays on the whole time, so I was wondering if there is a difference between the LM555 and NE555 timers.· I also thought that maybe the problem is that the LED is flashing too fast for me to tell...·
Thanks

Speculation made me think they are the same, then after finding the following datasheet, I'm almost positive,

Knight.
