SpeakJet and STAMP

Hi,
I have a STAMP on the Board of Education and would like to use the SpeakJet with it. Has anybody any experience of connecting both straight from the bread board? This is without using the Parallax development board - this solution is described in the board manual. The SpeakJet development board has a serial connection to the PC - and as far as I know this is different to connecting the STAMP directly to the SpeakJet.
