I'm considering creating a VB6 program that would be a simple, select the BS model, and enter the desired communcation information, such as baud rate, inverted, true, etc, etc. Then it would present the user with a number that would let the user use this number to communicate with the device, or other BS.

I'm wondering if this would be useful, or wether I should can the project? I estimate it'd take less than a few hours to create.

Let me know what yawl think, and if anything else should be added that I didn't mention.

Knight.

Oh, and the licence for the software would be freeware, and source code free for download.

Do you know where? And does it work for Basic Stamps?

You could do that ... but we're working on that already and plan to build it into the Help menu of the IDE. Our IDE engineer is pretty busy these days, so I'm not sure when he'll be able to add that feature. In the meantime, I encourage users to adopt our standard template as it handles the most popular baud rates.

    Jon,

I was wondering why this wasn't already done by Parallax and put into the IDE.

I guess I know why, he's got bigger fish to fry. ;)

I'll probably scrap the idea, and if the next IDE doesn't have the support in it, I'll create a standalone program to facilitate the usage.

I just thought that it was something that should be present and *could* be done pretty easily, since it's just a small amount of math for even a computer to do, so it is pretty easy to do, just never done. I also figured it'd be a decent way of contributing to the group, since I can't do alot of other contributions other than opinion, since I'm a software engineer first, and hardware student second.
