Having great fun with the stepper motor I canabalized from a printer. I also removed a second motor but don't know if it's a servo or plain DC or what. It has four leads that feed into the can. Doesn't appear to have any electronics to it. It's function is to move the print head back and forth. Can anyone tell me how I might test it to what kind of motor it is ? Many thanks.

4 leads from a printer is likely a bipolar stepping motor, the one I took apart had 5 inside 1 large, 3 medium and 1 small, all bipolar steppers (it was an expensive dye sublimation printer).

Driving them isnt too difficult using H-Bridges, heres an article about it: http://www.cs.uiowa.edu/~jones/step/circuits.html#bipolar
