I just came across Tracy Allen's Data Logger that actually programs in PBasic with an on-board OEM BasicStamp chip.
Look at www.emesystems.com
For those that are quite comforatable with PBasic, it seems ideal.

I haven't been able to fully comprehend all the features, but with the data logger and the real time clock and more, it really is appealing. It seems that I could spend more than the $199 just reinventing it.
It looks like I could use it with a robot as something more than motor and sensor management.
