Reading a graphics LCD frame buffer

Is it possible to read the contents of the frame buffer of a graphics LCD ?
I got one·that has lots of integrated functions but none for reading.
It seems that the frame buffer of a graphics LCD is write-only.
Currently I·am using·an external RAM as a frame buffer for a printer. Every time I put a pixel on the·RAM I put a pixel on the LCD frame buffer too·so I have some sort of preview of the printing results. However I have realized that,·if the LCD frame buffer were readable I could rid of the RAM and use the LCD itself as the printer buffer.·Too slow perhaps ?
Anyone knows of·any graphics LCD with reading capabilities ?
