Hello,

I'm trying to transmit my webcamera back from my robot via an onboard wireless laptop to a computer also on the network. I need a simple lightwieght piece of software that can do this. So far I have tried:

VLC
NSVTOOLS/Shoutcast
Skype
(My laptop is a PII with Windows 2000)

Any other suggestions?

-Diablo

While probably not a "permanent" solution, a "quickie" solution for now might be to establish a connection via one of the Instant Messanger services (like MSN, Yahoo, AOL, etc.)

    Hello Diablo,
If I understand you correctly you have a laptop on your robot, that laptop is wirelessly connected to a LAN. Your robot mounted camera is connected to your laptop, and you can view images from the same laptop. If this is correct, check www.ritlabs.com/en/products/tinyweb/ for their free TinyWeb software. With this running on your laptop, you can make files, images, etc. accessable from a LAN, essentialy turning a portion of your laptop harddrive into a server which can serve up pages, images. Your web camera has to download sequential and overwriting images to a file on your harddrive, which I recall is common feature with a lot of web cams.

    later, Kevin

Try this real time software from http://www.webcamxp.com/

It works great and affordable. Download the 21 day trial.

Download Windows Media Encoder 9 or 10 from Microsoft.· It is completey free, and allows you to setup streaming size, bitrate, compression, etc.· Not only that, but it will support multiple clients.

The only problem I see is that you are using a pentium 2 based laptop.· I don't know if that will be fast enough to encode streaming wmv on the fly.
