Parallel Resistor on 40MHz Clock

I know this isn't directly BS related, but I thought I'd give it a shot.

I see inconsistencies in microcontroller schematics.· Sometimes the oscillator has a parallel resistor across it, and sometimes it doesn't.

The Parallax schematics do have a 10K resistor across the resonator.· Is there a reason why some people have the resistor, and some don't?

Thanks.
Shaun

If I am not mistake, the resistor in parallel with the resonator is to ensure (help) start up when otherwise the oscillator circuit may not oscillate ...... extreem cold or heat.
