Improved Search Engine Available For Parallax Forums & Website

Hello Everyone,

·· For those having trouble with the forum search engine we can offer an alternative search engine which is a little easier, if not more familiar, and yields much better results.· At the link below you will find our Google Search engine, which will by default·search the entire Parallax Website, as well as the forums, with a few limitations.· The limitations mean the new search engine·may not find all of the information available in the forums, but will certainly make it easier.· You can access the new search engine at the link below:

http://search.parallax.com

To restrict a search to the forums, you can go into the Advanced Search options and specify a domain name, for example, forums.parallax.com or you can simply enter a search such as the one below looking for information on the DS1302.

DS1302 site:forums.parallax.com·····

This will search for all occurrences of DS1302 within the forums only.· You can also use + and - to narrow your search results.· For example, the following line does the same thing, but only brings up results that do NOT contain the word battery.· We hope this makes searching threads in the forums less painful.

DS1302 -battery site:forums.parallax.com

Here's how you can find what you're looking for on this site using the Google engine at search.parallax.com:

    1. Go to http://search.parallax.com
    2. Click on Advanced Search
    3. In the "with all of the words" field put the words you're looking for (can be found in any order)
    4. In the "with the exact phrase" field puta phrase (words in specific order) that you want to find
    5. Set Domains to Only and put this in the "domain field": forums.parallax.com

Now click Google Search.· Note: You can use steps 3 and 4 together or separately.· Here's an example screen shot:

    attachment.php?attachmentid=40148

I got frustrated with the forum search box, and ending up using the following search string to get google to give me what I was looking for:
    site:forums.parallax.com search terms

Replace search terms with what you are looking for.

Is there any way that this search format could be stuffed into the forums search box?

The search engine embedded in the forums software is somewhat limited. We established a Google search engine to overcome the limitations. It is unlikely that we will change the forum search engine until the next release of the forums software. The software was recently aquired by another company, so we expect an update very soon.

We might be able to do that but it's pretty tricky. There is a lot of XML and XSLT that goes into creating those pages. The ultimate goal is to incorporate the server directly into each of the Parallax sites, eliminating the need to use the default Google search pages.

If you want to restrict the results to those from just one forum, add something like "inurl:f=XX" (without the quotes) to the search terms, where XX is the forum number. The forum number can be seen at the end of the URL for each of the forums.

    Hello Parallax-Team,

I'm really NOT a professional adver-Teaser. But this product is very very good. yeah.gif

If the new search-engine is not satisfying again,
    take a look into

    www.dtsearch.com/

This is the state of the art about speed and search-possabilities.

If you don't want to use it for websites. Use it for your internal data!

    best regards

    Stefan
